National Renewable Laboratory (NREL)’s National Wind Technology Center (NWTC) is the nation’s premier wind energy technology research facility and provides technical support critical to the development of advanced wind and water energy systems.
This tour will include safety aspects of the operations conducted at the NWTC including working at height, on and around heavy equipment, fire protection on and around towers and turbines, blade testing and weather and environmental related issues.

The National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) is one of the leading research laboratories operated by the US Department of Energy. NREL develops renewable energy and energy efficiency technologies and practices, advances related science and engineering, and transfers knowledge and innovations to address America’s energy and environmental goals.
Attendees will see the Process Development Integration (PDIL) in the Science and Technology Facility, a world-class lab where industry and universities collaborate on advanced solar cell technologies and manufacturing methods. The next stop is the Integrated Biorefinery Research Facility (IBRF) which showcases NREL’s commitment to collaboration and meeting the nation’s biofuels development and deployment goals. Tour attendees will have the opportunity to see a frac location set-up and receive an explanation of the fracturing process. While on location, attendees will see the fracturing equipment including a blender, pumping units, manifold equipment, proppant management system and process monitoring equipment as well as an explanation of how the equipment operates in addition to an explanation of how the fracturing treatment stimulates the oil and gas formations.

Ball Packaging Can Manufacturing Facility Tour

Participants will have the opportunity to see how aluminum beverage cans and ends are made. This tour will take participants through the many steps of the can manufacturing process from beginning to end, starting with aluminum coils and ending with decorated cans ready to fill with beverages. This manufacturing plant is located near Golden, approximately one mile from Golden’s largest landmark, Coors Brewery.

Rentech’s Product Demonstration Unit (PDU) at the Rentech Energy Technology Center

Description
Rentech can produce certified synthetic fuels and electric power from carbon-containing materials such as biomass, waste, and fossil resources. The tour will be at Rentech’s Product Demonstration (PDU) which is believed to be the only fully-integrated synthetic transportation fuels production facility operating in the United States. The facility is designed to produce over 400 gallons per day of ultra-clean synthetic jet fuel, aviation fuel, ultra-low sulfur diesel, and specialty waxes and chemicals. Attendees will participate in a walking tour of the Demonstration unit. The tour will include the steps necessary to turn Biomass in to Diesel or Jet Fuels
Requirements
PPE including safety glasses and hard hats are required and provided by the facility for the process tour. Safety shoes and flame resistant clothing are also required during operating conditions. Personal items including cell phones are allowed on-site but must be left in the conference room during the tour.

The Sundyne Corporation is one of the industrial business units of Hamilton Sundstrand, a division of United Technology Corporation (UTC). During the visit, attendees with be given the opportunity to observe how the Sundyne Arvada Site has implemented a safety management system to assist in achieving VPP Star Status. During the tour, attendees will be able to see how both purchased and raw materials are received into the facility, located for processing, machined into components used in pump and compressor assemblies and finally tested as a customer product. You will understand how employee interaction and engagement plays a key role in maintaining a positive safety culture. This is one of the few large scale manufacturing facilities in the Metro Denver Area.
